The Cloudlet concept needs expansion beyond Coffee shop using WIFi. As we saw emergence of OPNFV over NFV platform, we do expect Open Edge Computing (OEC) will address the Mobile Edge Computing like ETSI ISG MEC to newer OEC over OPNFV like Platform. Lot of Acronyms and simple version is Cloudlet was VM as well application running in VM for a single user, with usage limited resource at WiFi edge.
Coming to Cellular Base Stations Edge like eNB for LTE and associated Mobile Edge Gateways, we need to embrace new architecture that will learn from OPNFV Pharos, the Teclo Cloud with OPNFV is great for Cloud but not for Edge, Yet the Building blocks of NFV Infrastructure can be used to extend MEC Reference Architecture. (RA). This is best done through Software Standardization of APIs.
We would love to see if we can carve a MEGAN module in OpenStack to address Management and provisioning of Edge Cloud User Apps (VNFs) which can work with multiple Edge Gateways like EG1, EG2 forming an Active Edge Group (AEG) to allow UserApps (VNF for an Application say A) be available a Active-Active pairs in the AEG. This means if a Device accessing VNF(A) application is closer to Edge Gateway 1 (EG1) let it access from it or if it is closer to EG2 let it access from EG2. This way even the time to pre-empt can be reduced and Smart Relocation applications can be engineered in Control Plane without impacting user perception and or Application State Context Management at the Edge.
Once I have more time will try address this at OpenStack conference at Austin and seek all your support for the same. Also any alternate name for MEGAN may be I can get from you, not sure if MEGAN is a reserved name and usable for OpenStack Edge Cloud module with comprehensive EDGE API support.
